Color first, keratin second
A keratin treatment coats and seals the hair. Coloring first lets the color take evenly, and the treatment then locks in shine. If you color after keratin, the color may not take as well and the smoothing can wear down faster. Ask your stylist how long to wait if you plan to do both close together.
If your hair is lightened
Lightened hair, especially very blonde hair, is more fragile. A good stylist checks how your hair stretches and feels before smoothing it, and may suggest a bond treatment first. At the salon, K18 and Olaplex treatments are available on their own or with color.

Questions to ask before you book
- Which keratin formula do you use, and what does it contain?
- How long should I wait to wash, tie back or color my hair afterward?
- Is my hair strong enough after lightening, or should I do a bond treatment first?
- How long will the smoothing last on my hair type?
