What changes the price of balayage
Most salons list balayage as a starting price because no two heads of hair need the same amount of product and time. These are the things that move the price:
- Length and thickness: long or thick hair needs more lightener and more time.
- Your starting color: going from dark brown to soft blonde takes more lift than brightening light brown.
- Toner: a gloss or toner after lightening sets the final shade, warm or cool.
- Bond protection: treatments such as Olaplex or K18 help keep lightened hair strong.
- Styling: some salons include a blowdry, others book it separately.

Why balayage can cost less over a year
Balayage is painted to blend with your natural color, so the regrowth is soft and many people go a few months between full appointments. A glaze or toner in between keeps the tone fresh for less than a full color service. Compared with highlights that need frequent root touch ups, that can mean fewer appointments a year.
